Head of the River Race
The head racing season drew to a close at the weekend with the successful running of the Head of the River Race on Saturday. Unfortunately, poor conditions meant that Sunday's Vesta Veterans' Head had to be called off.
The club ended the winter on a high, with the first eight winning the Senior 1 pennant and the Vernon Trophy.
The Vernon Trophy is presented to the fastest ARA club crew normally rowing on the Thames Tideway, in honour of the late Karl Vernon. TSS last won the trophy in 1987, and was also awarded it in 1962 and then every year between 1964 and 1976.
TSS I finished 5th overall, with two further crews in the top fifty: TSS II were 30th and TSS III 44th. TSS III were the third-fastest third eight, and TSS IV (235th overall) the seventh-fastest fourth eight, both ahead of crews from the
big rowing universities, including Durham and Oxford Brookes.
