Thames Ditton Regatta

The junior men only entered three events at Thames Ditton, but won all of them.

First to race were the J16 singles, with Ollie representing TSS and Jonathan racing for Tiffin. Ollie's first round was the main excitement: he got to a length lead, then his opponent pulled back level and just passed him, only for Ollie to gather himself for a great finish and win by three feet. In the second round, even though Ollie can do an impressive 6.30 for 2k on the ergo he was facing someone even bigger with an even better ergo score, but he won this battle of the giants by a couple of lengths. Jonathan came through the other half of the draw to set up an all-Williams final. To cries of 'come on Williams!' from TSS supporters, Jonathan used his very good start to scull home ahead.

Luke and Aaron entered J15 doubles and, despite being a scratch combination, won pretty comfortably in both their heat and final.

The Junior quad of Edwin, Max-Vincent, Laurie and David faced a stern task in racing Shiplake, who had beaten them two weeks ago. TSS got a good start and took a man and Shiplake gradually took this back to be level at halfway, when the TSS quad showed real character, upped their work and rate and sculled away to win by nearly two lengths.  There is nothing as satisfying as winning a real race against a crew that had beaten you before, and the boys did really well to win this, certainly the best they have ever raced in the years they have been together. The final was an anticlimax as their opposition didn't show up, but the first round win gave them all the satisfaction they needed!

So all in all a very good day for the junior men. CFW

Also, from the senior men, Andy Sage won Senior 2 singles, and from the junior women Emma, in her first-ever singles race, won women's J14 singles.
