Squad scope and aims

The men's squad, like the women's squad, caters for the majority of athletes at the club who would like to row at a competitive club level in the UK.

The main aim of the squad is to produce competitive sculling boats which can look to race at events throughout the UK.

We currenly have a relatively large squad which is able to deal with fairly differing ability levels.

Races

Weather permitting, we race at as many of the large regional events as possible.

From September through to December we try to go to as many of the regional small boats heads events as is possible. The focus of these races is usually on singles and doubles.

During the summer, whilst the focus is on qualification at Henley and racing at the National Championships, we also go to most of the large regattas in the region.

In the past, we have also travelled to the KRS Gent Spring regatta and, for those keen enough, have also raced at the Head of the Charles regatta and Royal Canadian Henley.

Location and training

The squad tries to go out on the river at TSS at 6:30 every Tuesday and Thursday, at 7:30 on Saturdays and at 8am on Sundays. There are also various weights and machine work during the week.

There are various trips to Dorney throughout the year to use the lake and, also, there are generally two camps in the year which athletes are strongly encouraged to attend.

Training Camps

We are very lucky to be able to go on two camps throughout the year. For 2007, we went to Pocinho, in northern Portugal for our Easter training camp.

At the end of 2007 the squad will go to Seville, and then to Portugal again for the 2008 Easter camp.
