Reading SBH

The Women's Squad got their 2012-13 season under way on a cold and misty Sunday morning at Reading Small Boats Head.

The recent rains had the river on red boards and the strong stream made for tricky conditions, but the seven boats all coped well and returned some encouraging results, including wins for newcomers to the group.

In the first division, the quad of Claire McIntosh, Caroline Matthews, Rowi Mortimer and Zoe Gullen raced as the sole entry in WIM3, finishing third-placed women's crew in the division. Next down the course was the double of Miranda McLaughlan and Vicky Gunn who won WIM2 by 1.8 seconds. Roseanna Eisdell had a positive race in WN singles, while coach Stan Livy was second in IM1 singles.

In Division 2, Stan raced his single against the same opposition as Division 1 and again finished second, but in a faster time and by a smaller margin. Claire and Caroline took a clear win in WIM1 doubles over Zoe and Miranda, who had a good race against a Lymington masters double.

Thanks go to Stan Livy for coaching and trailering, and to Dino and Dalya Livy for the support and excellent cinnamon buns.
