  • Alec Hodges Courses for athletes of all abilities, both rowers and scullers, adult and junior. Non-residential, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. July course 29 July – 2 August 2013; August course 12–16 August 2013
  • Advanced Sculling Courses for competitive scullers who wish to improve their racing performance. Non-residential, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Junior course 5–9 August 2013, Senior Course 19–23 August 2013

Alec Hodges Courses

July course: 29 July – 2 August 2013
August course:
12–16 August 2013

Open to athletes of any sculling ability, both adult and junior. The courses are for anyone who wants to improve their sculling – from beginners to confident scullers. The students will be a mixture of juniors (age 11–17) and adults who will work together with their coaches primarily in single sculls, although there will also be some crew-boat work (2x, 4x and 8x+). The course is for approximately thirty-two students, about half adult, half junior.

The courses will include:

  • Individual and crew coaching
  • Setting and reviewing individual objectives
  • Video analysis
  • Basics of sculling-boat rigging
  • Stretching for rowing
  • Boats, blades and coaching launches
  • Ergo work including tests
  • Safety advice
  • Tideway navigation and regulations
  • Racing on the final day.

The course fee of £300 includes lunches and refreshments for the five days of the course.

Advanced Sculling Courses

Junior course: 5–9 August 2013
Senior course: 19–23 August 2013

For scullers who are competing and wish to improve their racing performance. The junior course will be suitable for scullers from age 15 to 18. Each course will consist of eighteen to twenty athletes working primarily in single sculls, although there will also be some crew boat work (2x, 4x and 8x).

The course will include coaching on:

  • All elements of the stroke
  • Effective power application
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Flexibility
  • Mental training and race preparation
  • Rhythm and race craft
  • Training for competition
  • Ergo training, including tests
  • Video analysis
  • Rigging
  • Equipment maintenance

The course fee of £300 includes lunches and refreshments for the five days of the course.
